Helo, I am a serious newbie and have been looking into an iphone, but I see so many names and generations for the iphone, I am confused. What is the Edge model and if anyone wants to give an opinion on which generation they feel is best I would love to hear it.

Hi Alex, I hope I am being politically correct, but I see some of these phones being sold as Jailbroken, is that a bad thing and does it hinder functionality of the phone? I don't need it unlocked becasue I have AT&T

Main advantage of a jailbroken iPhone is that one can install custom apps, not officially "approved" by Apple on it.

There are also tons of iPhone apps which were approved by Apple: Apple - iPhone - App Store

last question. My friend said he would seel me his first generation 1phone and stated he had upgraded it to the v2.0 firmware. He said it will perform the same as the new 3G. Is that true? I do understand some screen shots may be different.

Yes, it's possible to install 2.0 firmware on an EDGE iPhone, so it will almost like the new iPhone 3G.
