Does anyone know what the iPhone 3g (OS 3.0) uses for a default location in Google Maps when GPS is unavailable? When I hit the location button and am indoors with no satalite coverage, Maps goes to my previous address in California. I now live in North Carolina and NEVER had an iPhone when I lived in CA. I can't find any references to this old address on either the iPhone or Google. I'm really curious as to where it is getting this addrss from.

It seems to use the skyhookswireless.com WiFi lookup if possible to determine your location.

Basically skyhookswireless have cars/bikes etc that drive around major cities and report the mac address of wireless routers and their gps co-oridinates.

Then, when you connect to wifi the mac address is looked up and the gps location used if there is one.

So, your only option as I understand it is to update your gps location in their database - see SKYHOOK Wireless: How It Works > Submit Wi-Fi AP

I've submitted my new location and waiting to see what happens.
