First, I'm not sure whether I have a 3 or a 3g. Recently my phone has been having some problems. For one, a 3 minute phone call reduces battery charge by 5-7% - without exaggeration. Under typical use (not used much), I had to recharged around 1-2 PM instead of every evening, as it was until a few months ago. I took the phone to a ATT local store. The rep advised I close ALL apps every PM. Did that with no improvement. She tried a reboot. This didn't help either. She then suggested I get a new battery, and this is where I need some clarification and the reason for this post. When I bought the phone, I bought a warranty which is valid until about April 12. According to the rep, the battery is not covered under warranty and I have to find a store that sells/replaces my battery. BUT . . . as soon as the phone is opened, it voids my warranty. This is what I don't understand. I'm being told to go to a store to get a battery which I pay for, and void my warranty. But I don't want it voided and don't understand how I can be told the battery is the problem, ATT doesn't cover it, I have to pay for it, but if I replace it, my warranty is voided. FWIW, the contract on this phone expires Jan 18th - next month. Is the battery not covered under the warranty? How can I be sure the battery is the problem? Would I be better off to limp along until Jan 18, 12 and get a new phone?
If Apple heard about about this, they would be mad. Why don't you send Apple an email saying everything with the store number and all? DO NOT go to a store and void your warranty. Apples 1 year warranty covers batteries.
