Hi, I am currently using iPhone 2G OS 3.0 and Jailbreak already. But now I want to upgrade my iPhone to OS 3.1.2. These are my questions: 1) After I upgrade, is the phone will be fine? (I mean the unlock thing remains, which I can use my phone normally). Because I`ve heard many rumours about the new OS is not ready for Jailbroken. 2) Is the apps on the previous OS will be deleted? (I want it to stay ) 3) where can I get the upgrade software? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
1a. If you restore via iTunes it will automatically restore your phone to the 3.1.3 OS so if you don't want that you will have to manually download and install the 3.1.2 OS. 1b. No your "unlock thingy" will go away and you will have to re-jailbreak it and unlock it again. 2. Yes all applications will be deleted. If you have them backed up onto your iTunes, you can just have them redownloaded when you restore your phone. 3. You can get the 3.1.2 iPhone OS ipsw package from iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From and here is the tutorial for the jailbreaking. iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.2 Using RedSn0w (Windows)
1) I have to unlock again? previous jailbreak does not need to unlock again right? Why is this happening? 2) Which updates is better? 3.1.2 or 3.1.3?
I will suggest that stick to 3.1.2. This version way better than 3.1.3 because of lots of issues such as difficulty on calling, catching up some signal and trouble opening video. 3.1.2 match up with latest version of JB. If you got few question feel free to ask me.
Firmware Upgrades Use To Hurt Well, not literally. But I do recall worrying about whether I was going to have a period of time when I would not have a functional phone, let alone a functional iPhone after going through earlier firmware upgrades. Part of that earlier firmware upgrade trauma was related to the fact that I had been using a PC (Windows XP); firmware upgrades really were a toss of the dice. You never knew if you were getting a better iPhone or a round of working really hard just to get your iPhone back into useable condition! Once I bought a MacBook, most of those problems evaporated, although there were still less frequent challenges. If you do have a PC, PLEASE consider getting a MacBook ASAP. Your life will be much easier, you'll wonder why you waited so long.
